Brady Shipman Martin is looking for a Senior Ecologist with at least five years' consultancy experience to join our Environmental team in Ranelagh, Dublin 6. You'll bring field and technical expertise to a multidisciplinary practice and help shape the design and delivery of projects of every type and scale across Ireland.

What you'll do

• Lead field surveys, including habitat classification and species survey
• Prepare Ecological Impact Assessments, EIAR chapters and Appropriate Assessment reports
• Manage projects, including programmes, budgets and direction of staff and sub-consultants
• Present to clients, statutory bodies and the public
• Work alongside our planners, landscape architects, urban designers and engineers
• Help identify new work and build client relationships with the partners

What you'll bring

• A postgraduate degree in ecology
• CIEEM membership, and chartered status (CEcol or CEnv) or working towards it
• At least five years' consultancy experience, including EcIA, EIA and AA
• Strong field skills, ideally with a bat or bird specialism
• A sound understanding of Irish and European policy, legislation and case law
• GIS experience
• Clear report writing and presentation skills

Join an established planning team working on development, masterplanning and environmental planning projects across Ireland, from feasibility through to decision.

Brady Shipman Martin has provided planning, landscape and environmental consultancy since 1968, from offices in Dublin and Cork. Our clients include major developers, architects and engineers, local authorities, state bodies and agencies, and corporate clients.

We’re interdisciplinary by default. Planners work in one team with urban designers, ecologists, landscape architects and environmental specialists, rather than in separate workstreams. We give evidence-based advice, and if a scheme carries planning risk, we say so early.

You’re a practical, strategic planner who enjoys complex projects and building strong client relationships.

You’ll work across large-scale residential, commercial and retail development, urban regeneration, tourism, masterplanning, infrastructure and environmental planning. Beyond development planning, the role includes forward planning, planning and environmental policy, and helping to grow the business.

There’s a clear route to more senior responsibility. BSM supports professional membership and CPD. Salary range and package negotiable - commensurate with skills and experience.

The position is full time, based in our Dublin office in Ranelagh, Dublin 6.

You will have

• A recognised (accredited) degree or postgraduate qualification in planning, and membership of the IPI and/or RTPI, or recognised equivalent.
• Typically seven years or more of post-graduate experience (some of which needs to be Ireland based), including development planning, feasibility analysis and environmental planning.
• Experience preparing and lodging planning applications, appeals and submissions, ideally including large-scale residential schemes in the Greater Dublin Area.
• A strong understanding of relevant Irish and European planning and environmental policy, legislation and case law
• Experience providing strategic planning advice and managing interdisciplinary project teams.
• Excellent report writing, analytical, presentation and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with knowledge of GIS and Adobe Creative Cloud.
• An ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.

Duties

To work constructively and enthusiastically as a professional Senior Planner within our Planning team: 

• Provide strategic planning advice to public and private clients on project direction, site potential and forward planning.
• Prepare planning applications, appeals, submissions and supporting reports, and manage their lodgement.
• Undertake feasibility analysis, site appraisal and policy review.
• Lead and coordinate interdisciplinary project teams, including programmes, budgets and sub-consultants.
• Draft and edit written and graphic planning reports and other communications.
• Present information to clients, planning authorities, An Coimisiún Pleanála and the public as appropriate, including at pre-application consultations and oral hearings.
• Provide direction and mentoring to other planning staff.
• Exercise sound and independent judgement in managing projects and in dealing with sensitive or confidential information.
• Travel to sites and meetings as required.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of planning policy, legislation and case law.
• Engage with the day-to-day operations of the Practice and cooperate with its policies and procedures.
• Work with the Partners and staff in identifying business development opportunities, suitable tenders and project opportunities, and pursuing new business in line with Practice strategy.
• Reinforce and develop the existing client network and seek to extend that network.
• Carry out other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Partnership.
